Here is an example of what
First United Methodist Church of Wenatchee, WA is doing to raise funds for Jamaa Letu II,
the boys' orphanage:

What About the Boys?
On Sunday, October 12 as we observed the Children’s Sabbath, we launched our efforts to help build another orphanage in the Congo. To keep our progress visible, we built an orphanage out of Lego blocks from donations and sold "Jars of Hope" - Jars filled with ingredients to make special treats like Smores Squares, M&M Cookies, Soup or Peppermint Hot Cocoa. For each dollar donated, another Lego was added.

ORPHANAGE Lego Building UPDATE - 3696 “bricks” have
been donated!  That's $3696.00 towards the orphanage! Thank you First Church of Wenatchee!

Here is what
Bothell United Methodist Church did to raise funds for Jamaa Letu II, the boys' orphanage:

1)  We've never taken an offering or charged admission for our annual Christmas Pageant.  At BUMC, the Pageant is put on by all of our Children and Youth. This year, we're going to take a free-will offering with all donations going to Jamaa Letu II and we're publicizing it so that families will know that our children and youth support this very important project.  We'll also have a display of pictures and slides that Kristin Joyner took in the Congo this past summer.

2)    We hosted a Parent's Night Out on Friday, December 5th.  From 5-9 pm we babysat for any children PreK through 6th grade so their parents could either go Christmas shopping, or simply have a date night together.  We asked for a free-will offering (we find that people will typically donate more if you leave the amount open, than they would if you specified a set amount per child.)  The kids were served a pizza dinner and shown a movie.  Our Youth also helped out with the babysitting and organized games.

3) On Sunday, February 1st we had a sale of All-American Super Bowl Munchies!   People will donate their favorite home-made snack foods (Chex Mix, jazzed up popcorn, brownies, cookies etc)  AND  also sell home-made apple pies (to keep with the all-American theme).
